TFM Interview: Deejay / producer Singularity/David Stolk.
TFM interview with deejay / producer Singularity / David Stolk.

1:
T.FM: Singularity, where does your name come from, and does it stand for something?
Singularity: Well I could never think of a good producing name and this is what a friend came up for me. It basically means the endless in the universe I believe, never really gave much attention to the meaning as it was allready sounding good enough for me!
2
T.FM: : You are pretty young and already released and remixed some great tunes. At what age did you start producing, and how did you become involved in Trance music?
Singularity: Thanks for the kind words! Well I began playing with some music in Ejay during 2004 untill 2006, at my 16th I began seriously trying to use Fruityloops and found my way in basically. And since then I am still producing with the Fruityloops software. The reason I fell in love with Trance music is because of a track that I really got addicted to: 8 Wonders – The Morning After (The Thrillseekers Remix) made me realize it is such an emotional, euphoric style of music and that is what attracts me when writing my music.
3
T.FM: : In the time that we know each other, we have been talking a lot, and to me, you seem like a producer still trying to find his way. 1 time loving Trance music, another moment you want to move into House or Progressive. What makes you change your mind all the time?
Singularity: Hello, well it is in my nature to express music in different styles. Sometimes I am in a clubby mood so I want a pumping bassline in the style of House. Sometimes I am in a emotional mood so want to create either a emotional Trance tune or a filmscore. Though my roots lay in Trance/Progressive and this is what I am going for.

T.FM: : You are 1 of the very view I know, that started producing first, and becoming a deejay after. At the moment you are working hard to become skilled with mixing with cd players. What do you find the hardest part in mixing with cd players? After all, deejaying with the pc is something you know, so you know the basic principles of mixing?
Singularity: Well they say practise makes perfect or atleast in the direction of. Anyway the hardest part for me is timing the transitions as it is all about counting. Though I think I am lucky to know some about producing so I most of the times don’t have to count because I feel the music.
5
T.FM: : Why did you choose to mix with cd players and not with vinyl or any of the digital solutions?
Singularity: When I was a kid I never experienced the vinyl hype. It was all CD’s and I can remember to sometimes go to the record store when I got my pocket money to spend it on a CD Single. The vinyls never got on to me and the mp3 computer mixing nowadays is good for radio shows, but in a club it is also about entertaining in my oppinion so CD players works best then.
6
T.FM: : 2009 has just been behind us. What have been your highlights in 2009 producing wise, and what can we expect for this new year in music from you, in both the deejay way as the producer way?
Singularity: My highlights were my track ‘Rising Sun’. It got a real hype in the Trance scene. The Suncatcher remix was supported by many big DJ’s and even played by Above & Beyond on their radioshow! My remix of Noah Neiman Feat. Catherine - You're The One 2009 was played by no other then Andy Moor! In the DJ way I got more experience and still have to learn a lot, but I am on my way.
As for 2010: I am planning to work under my name ‘David Stolk’ for all styles of Trance music. I will try to release more then in this past year and will really put all my effort in it! I will also be practising alot on my Cd players to get ready for the club life. So basically 2010 is my beginning into something new!

T.FM: : Please tell us how your hit-producing-studio looks like. (Pictures are also ok

)
Singularity: - A good pc!
- Alesis M1 Active Mk2 monitors
- Native instruments Audio Kontrol 1 soundcard
- 2x CDJ800 + 1x DJM400
- Fruityloops Producer Edition 9 + Various Vst Plugins
8
T.FM: : How did you become a DJ at TFM?
Singularity: I stranded on this webradio I believe when I was surfing on the Trance.nu forums and saw a advertisement. I went to the TFM Site and noticed they were searching for DJ’s, so this looked like a good opportunity to tryout to become a DJ at TFM.
9
T.FM: : Who is, or was, your favourite artist for 2009?
Singularity: Dreas. He convinced me by some great and unique releases like: Mormugao and Blade Runner who sound completely different to eachother and are both hits. I don’t see many producers doing the same!
10
T.FM: : A year from now, Singularity is......
Singularity: I can’t really say, but I think he will be out of the picture and replaced by David Stolk. David Stolk will be my new project to work hard on as mentioned before. The Project is basically related because it will also be the project for Uplifting Trance.
